As you are aware we were visited by Ofsted in December 2016. The inspection took place over two days, the team consisted of 3 Ofsted inspectors on the first day and 2 Ofsted inspectors & 2 HMI inspectors on the second day.
During the course of the 2 days the inspectors observed lessons and pupil behaviour around the academy; spoke to staff, directors, pupils and parents; looked at pupil work and homework; heard children read; reviewed academy documents and data and spent time reviewing the academy safeguarding records and procedures.
I am very proud of the way the pupils conducted themselves during the inspection both in lessons and around the academy. Thank you to all parents who spoke to inspectors at the gate.
We were pleased that the inspectors recognised the improvements the academy has made since we became part of Hatton Academies Trust in January 2014 and that their report includes many of the strengths of Victoria Primary Academy.
The inspectors were impressed with the way homework was presented, that pupils take pride in being part of the academy and that attendance is continuing to improve. Thank you parents for your continued support of the academy, working together with us to ensure your children are safe and happy at Victoria.
Inspectors made graded judgements on the effectiveness of leadership and management; the quality of teaching, learning and assessment; personal development, behaviour and welfare; outcomes for children and learners and the effectiveness of the early years provision. The academy was given an overall grading of 3 (requires improvement), this now gives us the opportunity to embed the good policies and practices they saw and ensure they become consistent across the academy to enable us to continue on our journey of improvement to be the best that we can be.
The inspectors also outlined some areas for improvement, and I would like to take this opportunity to assure you that academy leaders, teachers and support staff will continue to work together tirelessly to ensure that we are able to successfully meet these targets before the inspectors visit us again.
Please see some of the really positive things the inspectors said about our academy on the next page.
